  • Wigan Head Coach Adrian Lam previews Wigan’s Betfred Super League game vs Salford Red Devils

  • Highlights possible return of winger Joe Burgess from long-term injury

Wigan Warriors Head Coach Adrian Lam says his side know what to expect when they travel to the AJ Bell Stadium to face Salford Red Devils on Sunday (K.O. 3pm).

Although last Friday’s game saw an improved performance from Wigan, it was ultimately still another defeat. On attitudes in the camp Lam said, “I think we are all a little frustrated but there was some positive signs at the weekend.

“As a coaching staff we had been looking for more from our players in terms of effort on effort and desire and we feel we saw that on Friday. We are really pleased with that and there was plenty of positives to take out of the game.”

Lam has had to shuffle the pack regularly this season so far due to a number of injuries.

Joe Burgess scored two tries against Salford in 2014

Providing an update ahead of Salford - “There are a couple of boys coming back into consideration. Joe Burgess is certainly one and Dom Manfredi being the other. Benny Flower may also be but we will have to see later on in the week.

“No one is suspended again this week which is great. We’ve had seven out recently so having a few come back is certainly a good thing for the squad.

Wigan will travel to a Salford side who have impressed many at the start of the 2019 season, something which the Wigan Head Coach made clear he was very wary of.

“They had a fantastic win a few weeks ago over in Catalans and they have been playing really well. We’ve got to prepare to make sure that we are at our absolute best.

“We feel we have taken a step forward with our on-field attitude and the way that we’ve been training so I look forward to it.

“We played them in pre-season at the start of the year and it was pretty close in that match so we know what’s ahead of us. It’s one of those weeks when we are focusing on ourselves to try and get back on track and get a win for the Club.”
