Fought for each other: Hardaker

  • Zak Hardaker offers his verdict on Wigan Warriors’ win over Warrington Wolves on Friday night.

  • Full-back, who scored a try to help Wigan to 20-6 victory, spoke to Wigan TV after the game at the DW Stadium.

  • “It’s about getting to that right time of the year where you play your best rugby and I think we have took a massive step towards that.”

Zak Hardaker says he hopes the rest of Super League watched Wigan Warriors’ win over Warrington Wolves on Friday night as the his side moved up to joint second in the table.

The full-back was on the scoresheet in the first half alongside Bevan French and George Williams as Adrian Lam’s side sealed a 20-6 victory at the DW Stadium.

Wigan have now won nine of their last ten league games and Hardaker believes his team have made a statement of intent with three games of the regular season remaining.

Speaking to Wigan TV after the game on Friday, he said: “If we perform like that week in week out like we did in the first half, then most teams won’t want to come back at us in the second and that was the case.

“They (Warrington) threw quite a lot to us. There was a 15-20 minute period where we couldn’t get off our line and we kept dropping the ball, but the togetherness, the fight for each other, the desire, the hunger; that’s what we want to be renowned as and I think that showed.

“Hopefully people have watched that on TV and seen that we are a genuine top two team.”

Hardaker believes his side are starting to play their ‘best’ rugby, as he gave admiration to the young players in the team, as well as the Cherry and White faithful.

“It’s about getting to that right time of the year where you play your best rugby and I think we have took a massive step towards that.

“We’ve still got key indivuduals out but like I’ve been saying for weeks the young guys have been stepping up.

“That 40 minutes optimises us as a team and a Club. The fans were outstanding and they really helped us; I think they are feeling us come good at the right end and we’re feeling the energy from them which is helping us on the field.”
